Q: What are the questions to ask a house painter before they paint my house?

A: Before finalizing your contract with any house painter, ask them the following 10 questions to ensure that your painting project goes smoothly.

Question 1: What does a house painter do?

A: Knowing your painter’s step-by-step process is valuable. This way you know where your money is going and can track the progress of the project. Paintzen house painters are transparent in their painting process; pricing is visible on a per-item basis, Paintzen painters bring the necessary equipment and supplies to your home, they cover and protect your belongings, and when the project is done they clean up!

Question 2: Does a house painter move furniture?

A: Some do, but not all.  Clarify this before choosing a painter for your project.  Paintzen house painters can help move a couple of furniture items that weigh less than 50 lbs, but any time spent prepping the space makes the project longer. If there are items that weigh more than 50 lbs or if there are multiple items that need to be moved, we can add an extra charge to your quote. Paintzen house painters do not move fragile or irreplaceable items, nor do they disconnect water or gas lines.

Question 3: What prep work do I need to do before my house painter comes?

A: It depends on what the painter says they do.  With Paintzen, you don’t need to do much. Paintzen house painters bring the paint to your home, and they move a few items that are under 50lbs.  We do ask that you move anything that is breakable or irreplaceable and remove items hanging from the walls. Prep work, such as filling nail holes, and post job clean up is standard.  For larger or more complex repairs, simply ask and we will provide a quote.

Question 4: Does a house painter clean up afterward?

A: You don’t want to clean up. Make sure this is clear in your contract. Paintzen house painters do all the cleaning. You just sit back and enjoy your freshly painted home.

Question 5: Is the cost of my paint included in the final quote?

A: Be sure to confirm that the cost of paint is included in your final quote.  While most painters do include this, it’s not uncommon for it to be added after the job is complete.  Paintzen house painters include the cost of paint on your final quote. Furthermore, Paintzen gives you the option of selecting from a wide variety of quality paints.  If you have any questions about the cost or color of the paint, talk with your Project Manager for clarification.

Question 6: Does a house painter bring the paint with them?

A: Paintzen house painters have the paint delivered to your home or bring it with them on the first day of the project. Paintzen house painters arrive on-site with all of the supplies and equipment to ensure that your project is completed professionally and in a timely manner.  Furthermore, we remove and recycle any leftover paint that you don’t want to keep onsite.

Question 7: Does a house painter bring brushes, rollers, ladders, etc. with them?

A: Most painters will arrive at your home with the tools needed for the job, but it’s not uncommon for them to try to do the work with less than ideal equipment.  Paintzen house painters arrive on-site with all the necessary supplies and equipment to ensure that your project is completed professionally and in a timely manner

Question 8: How long does it take a painter to paint my house.

A: This is entirely dependent on the size of the job.  Any painter is capable of completing a project, but how long will it take them and will they provide you with an accurate time frame?  Paintzen assigns the proper number of painters to ensure that your project is completed in a timely manner, and we are upfront with how long the project is expected to take.

Question 9: What if I want to make a last-minute change to my house painting project?

A: If you have any last-minute questions or issues about your project, it can be difficult to reach your painter if they’re on another job or are unavailable.  Paintzen’s customer service team is available from start to finish. 

Question 10: Are house painters licensed and insured?

A: Definitely not.  It’s important that you know if your painter is properly licensed and insured.  All of Paintzen’s house painter contractors are licensed and insured. Furthermore, Paintzen performs background checks on all painters so that you can feel comfortable knowing that you have a reliable, trustworthy painter in your home.
